STV Player and the Saturday 3pm football ban

STV Player abroad: no live TV
Outside the UK, STV Player does not stream live TV or most on-demand shows. The STV help centre states this for viewers abroad. A connection to the United Kingdom location gives STV a British address. STV can still block connections that come from a VPN.

Saturday 3pm football: not shown live in the UK
UK broadcasters may not show football live on Saturdays from 2:45pm to 5:15pm. British services therefore do not stream the 3pm kick-offs at all. A UK IP address does not give you access to those matches. Matches at other times are broadcast as usual. The ban does not cover live radio commentary.
The UK location from continental Europe
Ben's VPN has a single location for the United Kingdom. From continental Europe, the route to it is short. This makes the UK location suitable for everyday browsing too.
A change of location does not require you to disconnect. The Change Location window has the box Automatically connect when changing location, ticked by default. While it is ticked, a new location replaces the running connection at once.

The app lists the country under its full name, United Kingdom. Press Location, then enter the name in Find location and choose the row.

Connect leads to the plans in Buy Ben's VPN until the account is paid. A plan bought on another device needs a sign-in instead. The Sign in to account button for that is near the top of the window, under the Already have a subscription? line.

The app says “Location will change the next time you connect to the VPN.” What does that mean?
This message appears when the auto-connect box is unticked. The app saved the UK as your location and kept the current connection. To move to the UK, disconnect first and then connect. Tick the box to make the next change happen at once.
Is there a way to watch STV abroad without a VPN?
STV Player+ subscribers can download shows to an iPhone or iPad before leaving the UK. Each download plays anywhere for up to 7 days, according to STV. Live TV is not available in this way.
Can I choose a city in the UK?
No, the app has one row for the United Kingdom. Our list of countries names only London for it.
