VPN for Discord on a PC: setup in 3 steps
Connect Ben's VPN to a nearby location first, then start Discord. The order is the same on a computer and on a phone. It matters when your network or your country blocks Discord.

Install Ben's VPN on the computer
Download the Windows version, the Mac version or the Linux version and install it.

Connect the VPN before Discord
Click Connect. Under Location, choose a country close to you, or click Fastest for a nearby location. Without a subscription, the app shows our plans first. Start Discord when the card shows Connected to. Restart Discord if it was already running. On Windows, quit it from its icon in the system tray. On a Mac, choose Discord → Quit Discord in the menu bar. Then start Discord again.

Test a voice channel
Join any voice channel. A green Voice Connected panel at the bottom left means voice works. Change the location, as described below, if the channel never connects or nobody hears you.
Voice drops or does not connect: change the location first
Under Location, choose another nearby country. With Automatically connect when changing location ticked, the app reconnects to it at once. Rejoin the voice channel if Discord does not restore the call. The Previous tile returns the old location if voice was clearer there.
For voice, a nearby country matters more than the speed tag next to it.
Find working server is not for voice problems. It checks TCP connections only, and Discord sends voice over UDP. Use the button when nothing in Discord loads at all. It is under Account → Settings.
Discord and a game: on Android, the game can skip the VPN
On Android, Discord can stay on the VPN while the game connects directly. Open Tunnel and choose Manual. Under Apps that bypass the VPN, tap Select apps and tick the game. Its traffic then does not go through our server.
On a computer, Tunnel excludes addresses, not whole programs. The game then uses the VPN together with Discord. For a lower ping, choose the closest location you can.

Discord hangs on “Checking for updates” when it starts. What helps?
Usually the Discord updater cannot reach its servers. Connect the VPN before you start Discord. The update check then goes through the VPN. Choose another location and start Discord again if it still hangs.
Why did Discord e-mail me about a sign-in from a new IP address?
Discord saw a sign-in from an IP address in another country. That is the country of your current location in the app. Confirm the sign-in with the button in that e-mail if it was you.
Should I enable multihop for Discord?
Usually not. Keep Multihop set to Automatic in Account → Settings. In this mode, the app enables multihop when a stable connection requires it. Your traffic then goes through a server in a third country first.
Does Discord need any special settings for the VPN?
No. Discord goes online through the connected VPN, like every other program on the computer. Its voice and video settings can stay as they are.
